Consumer Electronics at Comdex ‘92
Sony Executives Speak Out at Five Comdex Sessions on the Convergence of
Industries, New Personal Information Technologies and Multimedia
PARK RIDGE, NJ – The “Digital Revolution” will take center stage at Comdex ‘92
as Sony spotlights the growing integration of the computer and the consumer
electronics industries. This Comdex marks the first time that Sony’s Computers
and Components, Business and Professional, Consumer, and Sony Recording Media
product companies will be exhibiting together at a major computer industry
trade show. Sony’s booth is number 1778 and is located in the Main Hall of the
Las Vegas Convention Center.
“Sony’s participation in Comdex is a real-life demonstration of the convergence
of consumer electronics, computers and communications,” said Ron Sommer,
president and COO of Sony Corporation of America. “Our numerous executives
speaking at the conferences, the special multimedia theatre presentation in the
booth, and the products we are demonstrating all carry the same message: the
digital revolution is erasing traditional boundaries and a new generation of
integrated technologies, products and sales channels is being born.”
Five Sony executives will make major presentations at Comdex conferences
exploring the “digital revolution:”
• Mike Vitelli, Senior Vice President, Sony Consumer Products Group, will give
a keynote speech on the convergence of consumer electronics, computing and
communications in the plenary session, “Understanding the Digital Debate,”

• Bob Nell, Director, Sony Personal Information Products, will give a keynote

The special multimedia theatre presentation running continuously at the Sony
booth is another highlight of the show. The presentation, which involves
interaction between live actors and various audio, video and computer
technologies, will explore the ways Sony crossfertilizes innovations in both
consumer electronics and information processing to create new categories of
products.
After the special theatre presentation, visitors are invited to explore the
booth to see many of these technologies in action. In the area of multimedia,
for example, Sony will demonstrate the new Multimedia CD-ROM Player – the first
portable, self-contained multimedia device combining a full size CD-ROM XA
drive and PC-compatible processing – Desktop Library CD-ROM system, VISCA™
computer/video integration products, desktop video conferencing, interactive
